Starc's Ten-Wicket Test Raises a Bigger Cricket Question
Mitchell Starc's match figures of 10 for 51 gave Australia a swift victory over Bangladesh in Mackay. It was the sort of performance that makes a fast bowler look inevitable: late movement, awkward bounce and two wickets close enough together to turn pressure into collapse.
Yet the most revealing number was not Starc's wicket tally. The match became only the 29th Test in cricket history to finish within two days — and the fourth such result in Australia's past 20 home Tests.
That leaves two stories to consider. One is the quality of the left-arm fast bowling on both sides. The other is whether Test cricket is producing enough balance between bat and ball.
